Smelling the Roses Palm to Palm

Sketch Smelling the Roses: May 2013: (c) Luke Bennette

Sketch Palm to Palm: May 2013: (c) Luke Bennette
Smelling the roses began as an attempt to doodle and experiment with the patterns found in the flower and vase. The vase in question looks like a trumpet, and I have no idea where the semi saw underneath what looks like a wheel of cheese came from. However the picture is still one of intrigue and is enjoyable.

Palm to Palm was a difficult sketch. The hand is messed up to some extent and the engraving on the left hand side is not at all convincing. However it gives a great deal of opportunity for the colored and digital versions.

The colors don't give much emphasis but it does fill the picture out and give a sense of purpose and order to the otherwise strange scene found in the sketch. I cannot speak for everyone who looks at this picture but I see a number of issues with it.

Palm to Palm in color is certainly starting to pop. The engraving is in stark contrast with the rest of the picture and the light on the right hand side will allow for a great effect in the digital version.

Digital Palm to Palm: May 2013: (c) Luke Bennette

The digital version of Smelling the Roses gives a pop effect to the facial features and the flowers. It becomes more peaceful, to an extent. The strange thing is the painting in the background on the left. I never know what to think of it.

Palm to Palm now has a great effect that I can't really describe. I gave a glow effect to the whole picture however I dulled the glow for half and enhanced it for the other half while placing a colored pencil paint effect over the whole thing.
